Generic Iressa (Gefitinib)

Iressa is used for treatment of non-small lung cancer (locally advanced or metastatic). It retards the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. It can be taken only by adults. The amount of pills to be taken and frequency of treatment according to the type of cancer and othe r factors. Make sure that your healthcare provider is aware of any other drugs, over-the- counters or vitamins you take. Also it is necessary to show your medical history to the Doctor. You may be asked for some blood tests to check the liver function. The whole course of treatment should be monitored by a qualified specialist who has experience with cancer chemotherapeutic agents. The drug should be taken orally with/without food. If it is difficult for you to swallow the pill dissolve it in e the dose should be skipped. In case of overdose, contact emergency service or your medical advisor. Follow your Doctor’s instructions concerning any restrictions on drinks, food and activities. Contradictions Iressa should not be taken during the whole pregnancy or breastfeeding period. Use contraceptives as long as you undergo treatment with the drug. If any of the following side effects occur contact your healthcare provider immediately: shortness of breath, fever, cough, pain in chest, closing of the throat, severe nausea, persistent vomiting, eye pain/ irritation, bleeding, ongoing diarrhea, appetite loss, weight loss. Less serious side effects should be reported to the Doctor but they do not require immediate medical help: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, problems with skin (such as rash, itching, dryness or acne) and weakness. It is strongly recommended to consult your doctor before usage. Self-treatment is prohibited.
