Rapamune prevents organ rejection after transplant. It can be taken either as a tablet or solution at the same time every day to obtain the best result. Do not break or crash the pills. If you miss a dose take the drug as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next one. In case of overdose, contact emergency service or your medical advisor. Do not make any changes regarding the dosage or your treatment schedule without your Doctor?s advice. Wash your hands each time you touch the pills.
You will be regularly tested to monitor your health condition.
Consult your medical advisor before starting treatment, let him know if you take any over-the-counters, vitamins and herbs. Provide the Doctor with your medical history.
Avoid eating grapefruits while you are taking the drug because they can make it less effective. To prevent infections stay away from people with flue. Do not get any kind of vaccinations without your medical advisor?s consent. Avoid direct sunlight.
Both male and female should not conceive a child/get pregnant during the whole period of treatment with Rapamune. Start using contraceptives before the treatment and continue for 12 weeks after you stop taking the drug. Rapamune should not be taken by a breastfeeding woman.
You need an immediate medical help if you have any of the following symptoms: hives; trouble breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
The side effects listed below require medical attention, but are not an emergency: rapid heartbeat; pain when you breath, shortness of breath;chest pain, weakness or tiredness; coughing up blood/mucus; pale skin, easy bruising/bleeding, weakness; high temperature, chills, body aches, symptoms of flue; sweating at night, loss of weight; swelling of your face, stomach, hands or feet; fast gain of weight painful urination; or slow wound healing.
Inform your Doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms.
