Generic Zometa (Zoledronic Acid)

Dosage

Zometa is used to treat high blood calcium levels caused by cancer and multiple myeloma. Consult your medical advisor before starting treatment, let him know if you take any over-the-counters, vitamins and herbs. Provide the Doctor with your medical history.
Zometa is an injection and it is usually given in a healthcare institution. Do not make any changes regarding the dosage or your treatment schedule without your Doctor?s advice. If you miss Zometa injection contact your medical advisor for the further instructions. In case of overdose call for emergency medical help.
Drink not less than 2 glasses of water within a couple of hours before the injection to prevent dehydration.
Your blood will be analyzed on a regular basis to monitor your CBC counts, kidney function, and blood calcium levels.

Precautions

Avoid having dental surgery as long as you are on treatment with Zometa because recovery process may take longer than usually.
Both male and female should not conceive a child/get pregnant during the whole period of treatment with Zometa. Use contraceptives while taking the drug and for not less than 8 weeks after you finish the therapy. Do not take the drug if you breastfeeding.
Call for emergency medical help in case of the following signs of allergy to Zometa: hives; wheezing, chest tightness, heavy breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience: high temperature, chills, symptoms of flu, flushing; extreme joint, bone, or muscle pain; new/unusual pain in your thigh/groin; pale skin, giddiness /shortness of breath; hypocalcemia; or signs of problems with kidneys (small amount/no urinating; painful/ trouble urination; swelling, fast gain of weight; tiredness/shortness of breath).
